Advanced Medical Research Center
The Advanced Medical Research Center promotes basic and applied medical research by securing public competitive research funds and engaging in collaborative research with industry. The Center’s cutting-edge research enables pathological analysis and development of therapeutics.
As part of a project to develop advanced medical technology for infectious diseases and refractory immune diseases supported by public competitive research funds, the Center is promoting research in four fields:1) elucidation of pathogenic mechanisms of deep-seated infections and invention of advanced therapeutics, 2) elucidation of pathogenic mechanisms of autoimmune diseases and invention of advanced therapeutics, 3) elucidation of intercellular communication mechanisms and invention of advanced therapeutics, and 4) analysis of protein function mutations and their mechanisms for application to advanced therapeutics.
Researchers at the Center have discovered proteins that are thought to be closely related to pathogenic mechanisms of infections and autoimmune diseases and intercellular communication. Using specially bred mice and cells that lack these proteins, the Center is endeavoring to clarify their functions and elucidate communication mechanisms with the aim of developing new therapeutics.
