School of Medicine

To realize the goal of creating superior clinicians, our institution has always been quick to introduce educational reforms and pursue curricular innovation.

We offer our students: 1) six years of structured instruction; 2) problem-solving tutorials and small-group workshops; 3) a carefully integrated curriculum uniting the three traditional course divisions—pre-medical education, education in basic medicine, and instruction in clinical medicine; 4) a comprehensive medical curriculum that extends from the first to the fourth years and aims to develop and nurture humanistic feelings and motivation; 5) a variety of elective courses in the first four years; 6) a choice of domestic and overseas hospitals for the completion of clinical studies; and 7) an expanded international educational network, including the University of Sheffield (UK), University of Liverpool (UK), University of Otago (NZ), and Chiang Mai University (Thailand).

School of Nursing

We regard experience and practice grounded on a liberal arts education very highly, and we help students learn how to think. Through a thorough liberal arts education, we cultivate humanity and sensitivity, so that students can fully appreciate art, culture, and nature. In addition, to broaden students’ vision, we offer overseas study in Europe and intensive English programs in Canada.

Introductory courses are designed to give students an opportunity to study humans and human health from a variety of perspectives. Infection Control and Prevention, for example, deals with limiting nosocomial infection in hospitals, a key aspect of delivering quality medical care; it is one of our outstanding courses.

Specialized courses are designed as lectures that are matched with practicums for smaller numbers of students. Lectures are efficiently coordinated to enable students to acquire more practical knowledge. Students and teachers interact very well, which results in a better learning atmosphere and greater student self-motivation. In addition to the hospitals affiliated with our university, local medical facilities and organizations provide an ideal environment for practical training. It is the university’s policy that first-year students visit a number of health and public welfare facilities in May to be well prepared to study nursing. In the second semester, seniors can choose lectures and practicums of interest and pursue more specialized study.
